Carrie and her friends

We had so much fun on Tuesday afternoon with Carrie and her friends. Carrie is our senior model in Boardman High School. The weather didn’t cooperate very well for the session but we modified and got some really fun pictures. Carrie, Katiee Ann and Raven were very creative and gave Bruce some really cool ideas that represented them. Hopefully the frozen toes will warm up quickly :)

This is one of our Senior Models

Danielle has been a great senior model for us. She came to the Stark County Fair and worked several hours for us, plus she has been passing out her Model Cards to all of her friends to get them to come in and have their senior portraits done at our studio.

For doing all of this work for us, she gets a few extra perks. She came in with her homecoming dress, and we thought that it was really nice – so we decided to try some different effects that would give her some different looks. Take a look at the images below.

Interested in becoming a 2012 or 2013 Senior Model? Look over our application and send us some information. We are starting to book appointments for consultation in the coming months and will select our 2012 models very soon. You can find the application here.

Learning New Techniques

We are attending a seminar just below Toledo – and boy did we learn some new techniques in photographing.

Brian Little and Clem Kutzli hosted a Super Monday Event through PPA. We belong to PPA (Professional Photographers of America) because not only do they offer great classes to improve photographer’s techniques, but they have some of the best insurance coverage that can be obtained by a professional photographer – and that is something that protects both the photographer and the photographer’s client.

OK – back to topic at hand. Today we spent some time going over studio work, which I found refreshing. As with all areas, there is always room to improve one technique. However, I was more interested in outdoor photographing using natural light, which both Brian and Clem are great at. Here are a few portraits that were captured – one with each instructor.

Taylor – High School Senior On Location

Taylor is a Minerva High School Senior and this is her second session with us. She wanted to do some on location portraits, at her school and she had a prom dress that she wanted to get incorporate into a night image. She did not know what she was in for….. :)

This image was taken in one of the gymnasiums at the Minerva High School. The mural was designed and painted by a Minerva High Alumni a few years ago. When I saw the mural, I loved that it looked 3D and it photographs really well.

Then we decided to do some picture  outside. The last pictures that we captured were done on a set of tracks on a bridge that are no longer in use. As we walked onto the bridge, over a small river in darkness, Taylor and her mom were said that this would be an experience that they would not soon forget. Neither would I, and from that I have now added a small flashlight to my camera gear as MUST HAVE – my cellphone screen made a great backup light source, but I was worried that I would drop the phone into the river.

One of our Senior Models and a couple of friends

Vicki had an idea – I always like when seniors come to me with something that they would like to try. Why? Because it gives me a challenge – how am I going to pull off this picture.

Now the idea that Vicki had was not a tough one, but I needed to come up with some different poses that would also include her friends in some of the pictures. The jumping picture has been done many, many times before (if not by me, by some other photographers), and it was something that the young ladies came up with before we finished off for the night. I was happy to capture them as they jumped, distorted their faces and tried to keep their hair out of their faces (note to self – long hair needs hair bands for next jumping picture).

Katy – Senior Session

Katy and her dad often go hunting together, so she decided that she would incorporate this into her senior session. So she brought along her hunting outfit that she would wear when she is with her father hunting for wildlife.

The image of Katy in the chaise lounge, which is one of our newest props, is a favorite with our seniors. Not only can we obtain some great poses like the one that Katy is in, we also like to give a variety of portraits using this chair.

Lora and Andrea – Senior Models & Friends

We had Lora and Andrea come to our studio and sign up to be senior models. Actually Lora is a Senior Model, and Andrea is a Junior Model. Since they came in at the same time, we decided to do some “friend” pictures with them.

If you know either Lora or Andrea, ask them for their senior model card so that you can receive some discounts on your senior session with us.

Dallas – Carrollton High School Senior

Dallas is a senior from Carrollton that had, and has, some great ideas for his senior portraits. His father owns a NAPA store, which Dallas works at, so he wanted to do something there. It was great to go into the back room of the NAPA store, because there were so many possibilities – but I decided to have the hanging tail pipes be the background and not too much else. I wanted to create an interesting background, but not one that would take over the image and make Dallas the secondary object in the portrait.

We are always up for a challenge – and we encourage our seniors to come up with an idea, or show us something that they are interested in. Then we try to recreate the image that they have seen, and improve it further.

Taylor – Minerva High School Senior

Taylor is a friend of our Senior Model Katie – both are seniors at Minerva High School this year.

Taylor came to us with a great selection of clothing, and items from one of her hobbies – ART. She is extremely talented and has a great eye for making her art come to life. It was wonderful to meet and photograph her in our studio – plus we will be photographing her at the Minerva High School in the near future.
