Family Time in Sheet Harbor – Nova Scotia
Once a year the Malay family gets together and has a gathering for some fun with the kids. This year they had a treasure hunt that involved some tricky clues. There was a green stick, golden pineapple, a pumpkin, a feather (that looked like a crack in a tree) and other items to find that were well hidden.
After some fun looking for hidden items, fun in the lake – it was time for some food.
It was a fun filled day, and the kids were well worn out from all of the activities of the day. Plus it was a couple hour drive back to Halifax – so bed time came quick and hard for our kids.

Shubenacadie Park in Nova Scotia
While in NS, we decided to go and visit the Shubenacadie Wildlife Park. This park is like a country zoo – they have some of the animals in cages, but most of them are in large pens and some, like the peacocks, were allowed to roam free. They have animals of all types there, from Moose to Bald Eagles and not to forget the skunks.
The little guy with our kids is Alexander, our newphew. He was our tour guide, as he had been to this park several times during the year with his dad and his primary class (kindergarten class). So he knew the way and most of the animals.

On our Way to Nova Scotia
Most of you know that we are from Canada, and after many years of visiting our parents and siblings during the winter months, we decided it was time to visit them during the summer months. This way we could do some visiting without worrying about the snow and the bad weather. The only thing that we ran into going home was a little bit of rain.
We made pretty good time, and made it close to Bangor, ME on our first day – which was about 14 hours of driving. Portable DVD players are the best invention ever created for travelling. Sean and Kyla were able to put in a movie into each of their DVD players, use headphones and concentrate on their movie instead of bugging the driver “Are we there yet??” Heard this only a few times. I remember when my parents use to go for a long drive and I would constantly bug them about how far it was going to be and when we would get there. Thank goodness for portable electronics.

July 4th – Fireworks
Independence Day – A day to remember why we have the freedoms and a good life in the USA. Celebrated with family members, some cookouts and fireworks. But without the work of the forefathers and also of the men and women that sacrificed themselves to make this country what is currently is – we would not have what we have now.
